What makes Ceremonial matcha so special?

First harvest

Picked once a year in spring, when the leaves are at their sweetest.

Shade grown

Shaded before picking for a smoother taste and a vivid green colour.

Stone milled

Ground to an ultra-fine powder that whisks up smooth and clump-free.

From Uji to your cup

One farm. One cultivar.

Uji, just outside Kyoto, has been growing Japan’s most celebrated tea for centuries. Our matcha comes from a single cultivar — Okumidori — picked in the spring first flush, carefully processed with traditional stone milling, resulting in one of the brightest, most vivid green matcha powders available.

We import in small batches so every tin arrives fresh. No blends, no fillers — just 100% matcha green tea.

How to make the perfect matcha

01

Sift

Sift 1 teaspoon (about 2g) of matcha into a bowl to break up any clumps.

02

Whisk

Add 60ml of hot water (around 80°C, not boiling) and whisk in a quick zig-zag motion until frothy.

03

Enjoy

Sip straight, or pour over about 200ml of warm or iced milk, and enjoy!

Good to know

What’s the difference between ceremonial and other matcha?

Ceremonial grade is made from young, first-harvest leaves, known for being significantly sweeter and smoother to drink — although often enjoyed on its own with water, it's equally delicious in milk based drinks.

Other grades, like culinary grade, use older leaves from later in the harvest period, resulting in a stronger and more bitter flavour. Because of this, cafes and restaurants often pair these lower cost grades with sweeteners and other ingredients to improve their taste.

How much matcha should I use?

Around 1 teaspoon (2-3g) per cup is recommended.

How should I store it?

Keep the lid tightly shut and store in a cool, dark place. For the best colour and flavour, it is advised to consume within 1-2 months of opening. Storing in the fridge can also help to extend freshness.

Does matcha contain caffeine?

Yes. A typical 2g serve of matcha contains slightly less caffeine compared to a typical shot of espresso.
